Chief: multi-agency investigation led to arrest in April 23 assault, suspect held on $5 million bail

Chief Richard Bell delivered the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department's April report during the Township Board meeting on May 4 and described a multi-agency investigation into an early-morning incident on April 23 that combined a burglary and a sexual assault.
Chief Bell said detectives coordinated with outside jurisdictions, set up surveillance on a known location in Pottstown Borough, and arrested the suspect after he left that location. The suspect was charged with rape, burglary and theft and was being held in Montgomery County Prison on $5 million bail.
On the department’s April activity, Chief Bell reported 1,554 calls for service, 109 traffic citations, four DUI arrests and 33 accident investigations. He also noted mandatory firearms training is ongoing with three officers still to qualify, and that a new patrol vehicle was placed in service on April 30.
"After thirty hours, the subject was arrested and charged with rape, burglary, and theft and is currently in Montgomery County Prison on $5 million bail," Chief Bell said, and described the arrest as the product of strong cooperation among agencies. He added that the department’s working relationship with outside agencies helped remove "a monster" from the street.
