The Royston City Council on Sept. 9 approved an ordinance to annex 4.6 acres located at 285 Hartwell Highway into the city limits, setting an effective date of Oct. 1.
City Attorney Doug Ashworth read the second reading of the petitioned annexation, which Rocky Ridge Investment Group LLC filed with the city. Ashworth said the petition had been advertised and a public hearing was held Aug. 13. The ordinance cites Chapter 36 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia as the statutory basis for annexation.
Councilman Jason Phillips moved to accept the annexation; Councilman Tony McCollum seconded. The motion carried 6-0, as recorded by the clerk. The ordinance directs administrative steps to incorporate the parcel into Royston and specifies Oct. 1 as the effective date.
The annexation will transfer municipal jurisdiction from Hart County to Royston for the identified parcel; the transcript does not specify planned development or intended use for the property. The city notified the Hart County Board of Commissioners and the Hart County School District of the petition before the local hearing.
