Moore Engineering updates Kandiyohi street project; council approves $4,000 sewer‑pond estimate and DNR grant coordination

Representatives from Moore Engineering, Jon Pauna and Josiah Rostad, briefed the Kandiyohi City Council on the first phase of an upcoming street project at the Sept. 16 meeting and discussed additional tasks and time requirements for city staff as plans advance.

During reports of officers, the Public Works Supervisor said an electric lawn mower was tested and that staff and council concluded it would not be suitable or cost effective for the city's current needs. Council then approved a motion by Council Member Scott McGillivray, seconded by Council Member Jeff Clark, to patch a pothole on Dudley Avenue between 1st Street and 2nd Street.

On new business, McGillivray moved and Council Member Spencer Hunt seconded a motion directing Moore Engineering to prepare a cost estimate of $4,000 for a sanitary sewer pond system; the motion carried. The council also approved a motion to allow Public Works to work with Moore Engineering on grant applications for tree planting and on resolutions addressing Emerald Ash Borer on city property; that motion was seconded by Council Member David Streich and carried. Council discussed holding another informational meeting for residents if plans continue progressing.

Next steps: Moore Engineering will prepare the requested $4,000 estimate for a sanitary sewer pond; Public Works staff will pursue the authorized grant coordination with Moore Engineering. The council did not set a firm date for any additional resident meeting at this time.
