Kandiyohi council accepts donated AEDs, approves grant application and records fire-department donations

Council Member Jeff Clark moved that Kandiyohi Power Cooperative (KPC) be allowed to install an automated external defibrillator (AED) outside KJ's Quickstop with the owner's approval; Council Member Spencer Hunt seconded and the motion carried. The minutes record that KPC will donate the AED, cabinet and installation costs and the city 'would like to thank Kandiyohi Power Cooperative for their generous donation.
Separately, Council Member Clark moved that Kandiyohi Township install an AED outside the Kandiyohi Fire Hall (township to donate AED, cabinet and installation) and that the city install an AED by Whittier Park (city to pay for the third unit); Council Member Scott McGillivray seconded and the motion carried.
Public Works Supervisor Brandon Huls requested that the city apply for a Minnesota Department of Health source water grant to fund a new generator; Council Member McGillivray moved to approve applying and Council Member Jeff Clark seconded; the motion carried.
Council also approved Resolution 202417 to accept two cash donations to the Kandiyohi Fire Department Truck and Equipment Account: $400 from Scott Wagar and $100 from the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Women of ECLA. The motion to accept the resolution was made by Council Member David Streich and seconded by Council Member Spencer Hunt; the roll call vote recorded support and the resolution was accepted.
Other business recorded in the minutes included tabling proposed changes to the city's chicken ordinance indefinitely (current rules require 10 acres of agriculturally zoned land for chickens), a preliminary discussion of the 2025 budget to be finalized at the Sept. 16 meeting, and announcements about community events.
The meeting recorded a claims list with total expenditures of $6,307.83 and a city portion of fire department expenditures of $200.09; the claims list includes multiple vendor and payroll entries but does not specify pay periods.
