Rye committee pursues PREPA grant to study Bailey's Brook watershed and groundwater

Rye's Master Plan Implementation Committee heard on June 2 that planning staff are preparing a PREPA grant application to study the Bailey's Brook watershed and its overlap with the town's aquifer and wellhead protection areas.
Kim Reed, planning and zoning staff, said the grant application is due June 15 and would likely fund GIS mapping, groundwater analysis and surface-water analysis. FB Environmental is assisting staff in specifying the scope of work, and Reed said the proposed study would be similar to analysis previously completed for the Parsons Creek watershed.
Committee members agreed MPIC has budgeted a limited amount in 2026 to begin the project if the PREPA grant is not obtained and discussed adding new fields to the action-item matrix to flag items that require funding and where the funding would come from.
Next steps: Reed will complete the PREPA application; if the grant is awarded the town expects FB Environmental's scope to guide work scheduling, and MPIC will follow up with funding and timing details at a future meeting.
