Leesburg council adopts comprehensive plan transmittal and approves community events, infrastructure application

On Feb. 3, 2026, Leesburg City Council approved an updated Comprehensive Plan for transmittal to the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission and Georgia DCA, approved The Vine’s 5K run, authorized filing a Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank application, and heard a mid-year report from Lee County Family Connection.
At its Feb. 3 meeting, the Leesburg City Council approved several routine and community-focused items in a single session. City Manager Bob Alexander presented an updated Comprehensive Plan and a resolution authorizing its transmittal to the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; Councilmember Billy Breeden moved to approve both the plan and the transmittal resolution, Mayor Pro Tem Amanda White seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
Council also approved a 5K run hosted by The Vine, approved staff to submit an application to the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank, and received a mid-year report from Executive Director Patsy James of Lee County Family Connection. The Finance Director reviewed the financial report and City Manager Alexander briefed council on current projects.
Administrative notices included a Star Student and Teacher Breakfast set for Feb. 18, 2026 at 6:30 a.m., an Express Disposal trash-collection rate increase recorded as 4.390 effective Jan. 1, 2026, and a reminder about the Georgia Rural Water Association conference scheduled for May 5–7, 2026. The council adjourned with a unanimous motion by Mayor Pro Tem Amanda White (seconded by Councilmember Judy Powell).
