Leesburg council approves FY27 budget calendar, tablets purchase, April Farmers' Market and $17,000 250th celebration funding

At its March 3 meeting the Leesburg City Council approved several administrative and event items by unanimous vote.
Finance Director Allison presented the FY 2027 Budget Calendar. Councilmember Charles Fairbrother moved to approve the calendar and Councilmember Rufus Sherman seconded; the council voted unanimously to adopt the schedule.
City Manager Bob Alexander proposed purchasing tablets for council members for meeting use, at a cost of $2,800. Councilmember Fairbrother moved to approve consideration of the tablets and Jamie Baggett seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Marylen Knights, Senior Executive Assistant, proposed initiating a Farmers' Market during April as part of Georgia Cities Week; Councilmember Judy Powell moved to approve and Mayor Pro Tem Amanda White seconded. The council unanimously approved the Farmers' Market proposal.
Chief Prokesh proposed holding Leesburg’s America's 250th Anniversary celebration on July 10, 2026. Mayor Pro Tem Amanda White moved to proceed with the celebration with expenditures not to exceed $17,000 from the general fund; Councilmember Rufus Sherman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
