Royston council schedules Aug. 6 work session to tackle blighted and vacant downtown buildings

Councilman Fletcher Hodges told the Royston City Council on July 9 that addressing blighted and vacant buildings downtown was a campaign commitment and a council priority. Hodges said the council previously approved a motion to hold a work session and asked to set a date so staff and members could attend.
Hodges moved to hold the work session on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. to review two sample ordinances that Michael Crump had circulated (samples sourced from Cornelia). Councilman Tony McCollum seconded the motion, and the council approved it 6-0. Hodges told the council he expects the incoming city manager to provide implementation input while the council focuses on policy and direction.
The minutes do not record the text of the sample ordinances; the work session is intended to let the council consider drafting a local blighted and vacant buildings ordinance.
