Staples-Motley board elects Wright chair, installs 2026 officers and committee assignments
Summary
At its Jan. 5 organizational meeting the Staples-Motley School Board elected Ryan Wright as board chair and filled vice chair, clerk and treasurer posts; the board also approved assistant appointments and committee assignments and set the 2026 meeting schedule and board salary.
Ryan Wright was declared board chair at the Staples-Motley School District organizational meeting on Jan. 5 after Chair Mary Freeman nominated him and the board called for additional nominations twice with none offered.
The board also filled other officer posts for 2026: Trout was declared vice chair after a nomination by Frisk; Frisk was declared clerk following a nomination by Trout; and Reeck was declared treasurer after a nomination by Frisk.
Reese moved and Frisk seconded a successful motion to appoint Trisha Larson as Assistant to the Clerk and Ellie Hill as Assistant to the Treasurer. The board then designated its annual administrative items for 2026, including naming Pemberton Law Office of Fergus Falls, Kennedy & Graven, and Knutson, Flynn & Deans as official school attorneys, and designating The Staples World as the district’s official newspaper.
The board announced committee assignments for 2026, including Finance (Freeman and Reeck), Policy (Trout and Reese), District Technology (Freeman), Meet & Confer (Trout and Frisk), Facility (Reese and Reeck), and the Superintendent Evaluation Committee (Reeck and Wright), among other committee roles listed at the meeting.
On schedule and compensation matters, the board voted to set the 2026 meeting schedule (regular meetings at the District Office at 6 p.m., with the first monthly meeting a work session and timing adjustments in January, February and July) and set the 2026 school board salary at $3,550.
The meeting ended after additional administrative items and the board adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
