Board approves Gallagher agreement to start pharmacy benefit manager procurement

Human Resources Director Melissa Thomas told the board the county will contract with Gallagher Benefit Services to lead an RFP and provide implementation support for a pharmacy benefit manager.
"This agenda item is an agreement with Gallagher Benefit Services to perform an RFP for a pharmacy benefit manager," Thomas said. "The process will take four to six months."
Thomas said Gallagher will review the county's data and help identify a vendor that can deliver future savings. Joshua Woodman, who worked with Thomas and Gallagher on the draft language, was acknowledged during the presentation.
A supervisor moved the item and it was seconded; the board voted to approve the agreement. No dollar amount or contract term was discussed in the public presentation.
The decision starts a county procurement process to reassess pharmacy benefit management and related plan services; staff said the work will require several months to complete and return recommendations to the board.
