Saint Peter board approves curriculum updates, new paraprofessional pact and raises capitalization threshold

The Saint Peter Public School District board on Jan. 21 approved a package of instructional and fiscal changes for the coming school year, voting to adopt recommended high-school course and program changes, adjust the 2026–2027 district calendar and enact two district-level financial and personnel decisions.
Principal Annette Engeldinger presented the proposed high-school course and program adjustments, which the Education Committee reviewed on Jan. 8 and recommended for board approval. The board voted to approve the changes on a motion by Board Member Kate Martens, seconded by Tracy Stuewe.
Board members also approved an update to the 2026–2027 district calendar to move a November 11 workday so Saint Peter High School can continue hosting its community-wide Veterans Day program (motion by Martens, seconded by Ken Rossow).
Following a recommendation from the district auditor (Abdo) and the Business Committee, the board voted to raise the district’s capitalization threshold from $2,500 to $10,000, effective with the 2025–26 school year. The motion was made by Ken Rossow and seconded by Bill Kautt. The board record states the recommendation came from the auditor and was supported by the Business Committee.
On labor matters, Superintendent Jon Graff summarized modifications to the Paraprofessional Educators’ Master Agreement; those updates were negotiated to align with board budget goals and have been ratified by paraprofessional personnel. The board approved the agreement on a motion by Bill Kautt, seconded by Ken Rossow.
Procedurally, the items above were approved by motions recorded in the minutes; each motion carried "unanimously amongst those present" in the meeting. The board will continue oversight of implementation and budgeting through its Business and Negotiations Committees.
