Franklin council receives Charter Review Commission report, approves event support and minutes

At its April 17 meeting the Franklin City Council received the Charter Review Commission’s report, which contained eight proposed charter amendments. Law Director Donnette Fisher said Council will vote on amendments at its June 19 meeting and that on May 15 Council should recommend which amendments to submit to voters. Carl Bray asked how many amendments had appeared on prior ballots; Fisher responded that eight appeared in 2007, five or six at the next election, and four on the most recent ballot. Fisher noted there is no legal limit on the number of amendments that can be placed on a ballot.
Council also approved a reimbursement of up to $3,000 to Warren County Kustoms for the 2017 Franklin Downtown Saturday Night Car Show after staff recommended support; Gary Bates had requested the funding in a letter included in the meeting packet. Earlier in the meeting Councilmember Carl Bray moved and Councilmember Todd Hall seconded approval of the Clerk’s Journal and official minutes from the April 3 meeting; the council approved the minutes (Councilmember Michael Aldridge recorded an abstention on that vote).
City Manager Sonny Lewis provided brief operational notes (the annual water/sewer survey is in council mailboxes; the four bridge lions are now lighted). Council comments closed the meeting and Mayor Denny Centers adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
