The Staples-Motley School Board on Sept. 22 certified the district's proposed tax levy at the maximum amount payable in 2026 and set a Truth in Taxation public meeting for Dec. 1, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the district office conference room.
The certification motion was made by board member Reeck and seconded by board member Frisk; the motion carried. Business Manager Hill presented the financial report earlier in the meeting, after which the board approved August disbursements and receipts.
Board members also approved raising teacher substitute pay to $160 per day, a change approved by motion during the finance portion of the agenda. The board posted a public announcement that the Dec. 1 meeting will include budget and levy discussion and allow members of the public to speak.
Why it matters: certifying the levy establishes the district's maximum request for property-tax revenues that will be considered during the Truth in Taxation hearing, a required step before final levy adoption. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes; the transcript records the action as "MC" (motion carried).
