Council member Anita Remijas told the Long Beach plan commission on May 18 that she had met with Chief Swistek about duplicate Lake Shore Drive addresses shared by Long Beach and Michigan City. According to Remijas, Chief Swistek indicated that police, fire and EMS did not see a need for changes at this time.
Remijas said county dispatch is aware of the duplicate street names and that dispatchers use an 'MC' or 'LB' suffix to distinguish whether a call is routed to Michigan City or Long Beach. Remijas said she will brief the Town Council on the outcome of her meeting with the chief.
No formal action was taken at the commission meeting. The commission record notes the discussion for follow-up at the Town Council level.
