Long Beach parks staff confirm full summer camp staffing, plan Art in the Park

The Long Beach Parks & Recreation Board heard program updates May 26 showing several summer offerings are set and staff are proposing a revised payment model for arts programming.
Activities Coordinator Maddie Dowty told the board that Summer Camp, running June 15–July 31, has all positions filled — seven returning staff, six new staff and one new director — and orientation is scheduled for June 12. She said applications would go live on Monday via the town Facebook page, the community center, town hall and the Beacher.
Dowty also said nothing is finalized for June’s First Saturday Arts and that she will present a written proposal to reorganize payment arrangements: the board would cover room costs and the coordinator’s time while artists would set and collect participant fees and provide materials. The proposal is intended to be equitable to both the town and artists.
The board confirmed a tennis camp scheduled June 16–July 30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and previewed Art in the Park on Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.; Tim was named the Park Board liaison. Organizers reported 12 vendors committed and Velvet Ice Cream and Johnny V music confirmed; staff will post a vendor notice on the town website.
These programming updates are implementation items for Parks & Recreation staff; no formal policy changes or budget reallocations were recorded at the meeting.
