The Sandersville City Council on Feb. 2 approved several administrative and economic-development items, including a $7,490 payment for a solar-powered flashing stop sign on Hines Street, authorization for an MOU with Cobblestone Hotels Development LLC and governance changes to the city's Development Authority (DDA).
Public Works Director Chris Walker described the Hines Street device as a solar-powered stop sign kit that will begin flashing when a vehicle is within roughly 90 feet of the railroad tracks. Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith moved to authorize payment of $7,490 to EpicStar LED, LLC for the kit; Council Member Deborah Brown seconded. The motion passed; the minutes record favorable votes from Council Members Mayme Dennis and Ben Salter and note Council Member Danny Brown was not in the room for the vote.
On economic development, Council Member Ben Salter moved to authorize the mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding among the City of Sandersville, the City of Sandersville Development Authority and Cobblestone Hotels Development LLC; Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Council Member Mayme Dennis asked staff to verify whether the proposed hotel would contain 54 or 58 rooms; the minutes do not resolve that detail.
The council also adopted amended DDA by-laws (motion by Council Member Danny Brown, seconded by Ben Salter) and appointed Zack Webb and Ashley Garrin to the DDA for terms January 2026–March 2028 and Audre Jenkins for a term January 2026–March 2027 (motion by Council Member Deborah Brown; Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith seconded). All these motions passed unanimously.
No members of the public spoke during public comment. The council then moved into an executive session to discuss personnel matters and, following that session, adjourned for the evening.
