Santa Claus council approves $6,000 walkway replacement as street resurfacing begins

The City of Santa Claus council voted at its Feb. 18 meeting to hire contractor Larry Sikes to replace the walkway to the Gift Shop for $6,000. Councilmember Renee Wright moved and Councilmember Matt Lynn seconded the motion; councilmembers voted unanimously to approve the work.
Council also reported that street resurfacing work by contractor Larry Sike has begun. The council said STOP signs have been ordered and that street-name signs will be addressed as soon as possible. A resident, Wayne Ward, questioned a worker operating a backhoe on Rudolph Way; councilmembers said the operator was preparing streets for resurfacing.
To address erosion at Reindeer Trail, council reviewed three bids for topsoil and grass seeding and agreed the work should proceed as soon as possible. Mayor Donita Bowen said she will close the Roads bank account and finalize the LMIG (Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant) paperwork now that resurfacing has commenced.
