An organizational meeting of the School Board of Saint Peter Public Schools was held Jan. 5, 2026, in the Governor's Room of the Saint Peter Community Center. Board Chair Charlie Potts called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., and five members were present.
The board adopted the meeting agenda on a motion by Bill Kautt, seconded by Ken Rossow; the motion carried unanimously. Board member Bill Kautt then led re-elected members Charlie Potts and Kate Martens in the acceptance of the Oath of Office.
By acclamation the board elected Charlie Potts as chair (Potts accepted), Drew Dixon as vice chair (Dixon was absent), Kate Martens as clerk (Martens accepted) and Ken Rossow as treasurer. The board designated multiple financial institutions as official depositories, including First National Bank of Saint Peter, Pioneer Bank of Saint Peter, HomeTown Bank of Saint Peter, U.S. Bank of Saint Paul, Wells Fargo, South Point Financial Credit Union and MSDLAF (MSBA Investment Program); the motion to designate depositories was made by Bill Kautt, seconded by Tracy Stuewe, and Ken Rossow recorded an abstention on that item.
The board designated the Saint Peter Herald as the district's official newspaper and named Abdo Firm as the district auditor for its school audit; both items were approved unanimously. The board also designated the business manager (or her designee) to continue making wire transfers and authorized the superintendent to approve non-resident student agreements, each by unanimous motions.
On compensation, the board set monthly stipends for officers: chair $500 ($6,000 per year); vice chair $300 ($3,600); treasurer $400 ($4,800); clerk $350 ($4,200); director $300 ($3,600). The board also approved a $100 monthly stipend for members of the human resources/negotiations committee.
The board identified Kennedy and Graven as primary legal counsel and authorized the chairperson, the superintendent and the Special Programs (Human Resources) Administrator to contact counsel. The board set its regular meetings for the third Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Governor's Room/Community Center and scheduled study sessions for the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Middle School Media Center.
The board discussed committee appointments but did not take formal action; Chair Potts said any recommended adjustments would be re-presented at the Jan. 21 regular meeting. A motion by Tracy Stuewe, seconded by Ken Rossow, to adjourn was carried unanimously at 5:32 p.m.
Actions taken at the organizational meeting were procedural and administrative in nature; no policy changes or contested votes were recorded.
