Meeting staff explained the Development Authority and the Chamber of Commerce will contribute alongside municipalities: "They're asking the county for 10, city for 10, and the Chamber of Commerce for 10, and they will pay for 20," staff said. Commissioners discussed past studies, the role of municipal development authorities and whether creating a countywide economic development authority would better coordinate growth efforts.
One commissioner stressed the county should build local capacity and asked staff to present the proposal to the Development Authority and bring back more detail; another commissioner said the county could use internal staff to achieve similar aims and questioned the value of paying an external consultant. After discussion, the board moved and approved the county's $10,000 yearly participation in the three‑year study.
Commissioners asked for clarity on deliverables and requested Development Authority staff report back on how the county's contribution will be used and whether the study can be coordinated with any proposed county development authority work going forward.
