Mr. Bill Powell met with Mayor Donita Bowen and interested parties on Nov. 7 to explain his analysis of the current rate structure and to recommend increases that would allow the water and sewer systems to operate within budget. Councilmembers heard Powell—s recommendation and agreed to address rates at the January meeting.
Council members also discussed recent storm damage to water infrastructure. The transcript notes a fallen oak tree ruptured a main water line under the park, which caused low water pressure; cleaning an easement in the woods below the park was discussed as part of repair work. Mayor Bowen said a generator for the well could cost approximately $55,000 and that Toombs EMA Director Lynn Moore is working with Lyons and the city on future water needs and coordination.
