Joey Thigpen asked for an update on resurfacing and said he opposed closing Salem Street because local residents use it for recreation. Councilmember Vince Meadows said he had previously been told Salem Street must remain open because it serves as a school-bus route. Mayor Donita Bowen said she will inquire about the bus-route designation before any closure is finalized.
Council was also reminded that debris piled on road shoulders must be removed by Jan. 6, 2025, for resurfacing to proceed. The mayor and staff discussed coordinating debris removal ahead of resurfacing; the council noted that debris from Hurricane Helene remained an obstacle to the schedule.
The meeting did not record a formal vote on closing Salem Street. The resurfacing schedule and related logistics were left for follow-up, and the council set a debris-removal deadline to enable the project.
