Mayor Donita Bowen reported the Georgia Department of Transportation approved a Local Road Assistance (LRA) grant that the city used last month for grading and crush-and-run work on Salem Street. She said the work was part of the streets project the council contracted to Sikes Civil and that Sikes has completed the project and submitted invoices that have been paid.
Bowen said she received an email from Nolan of the Federal Emergency Management Agency indicating FEMA is still working to complete a culvert project at Salem Street that would be funded by FEMA and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). The email did not include a completion date. According to Bowen, the Sikes crew has moved out and the city crew will install the remaining stop signs at the park and on Salem Street.
The council also noted routine road maintenance elsewhere: asphalt speed bumps were reinstalled on Dancer Street and Rudolph Way. No formal vote or new funding authorization for additional roadwork was recorded in the minutes.
The council recorded no specific timeline for the FEMA-funded culvert completion; Bowen relayed FEMA's ongoing involvement to the council as an informational update.
