Spencer County approves EMS surplus, purchases two narcotics safes and hires staff

The court also approved donating two NexEdge repeaters (with duplexers and power units) to Nelson County after upgrading the local repeater infrastructure.
Spencer County EMS asked to purchase two additional Knox narcotic safes to secure controlled substances. The court approved the purchase at a total cost of $4,495 using Opioid settlement funds; the safes and specified options (mechanical override, Wi‑Fi, surface mount) appear on a Knox Company quote attached to the meeting packet.
Personnel changes approved included hiring Lauren Crawford full time effective June 15 at a rate of $19.20 per hour, pending standard hiring requirements. The court also reviewed the EMS fleet replacement plan included in the packet, which lists remount and purchase cost estimates for 2026–2031.
The EMS director said a storm-shelter grant pre-application had been submitted and he was exploring potential city partnership for a location. The approvals were made by voice vote and recorded in the minutes.
