District partner GCY presented the annual river trip program and told the Board that planning is under way for April 10—13, 2026 but that funding previously relied upon is no longer available.
Presenter Forrest Radarian described the trip as hands-on for roughly 20 students each year, with participants learning river skills, campsite duties, cooking, and curriculum ties to art and history. He said more than 20 students typically apply and participants are chosen by lottery.
Radarian told the Board that the grant the program previously relied upon has been discontinued and that he and district administrators are discussing funding options with the National Park Service to keep the program funded for 2026.
The Board heard the presentation during the meeting; no formal vote on the program funding occurred. Administrators listed continuing efforts to identify government funding sources in the Business Manager report.
