Interim Chair Linda D. Hays called the meeting to order; Commissioners Stan Edwards, Demond Mason, Andre Cooper, J.C. Henderson and LeAnne Long, Acting County Manager James Brown, County Clerk Susan G. Nolley and Finance Director Brittany White were present.
During opening business Commissioner Demond Mason moved to adopt the agenda; Commissioner J.C. Henderson seconded and the motion passed on a board vote of 5-0. Finance Director Brittany White then presented the proposed FY2027 budget and noted the budget book and the presentation are available online (ClearGov budget book and a livestream of the hearing on the Newton County Government YouTube channel).
Interim Chair Linda D. Hays opened the public hearing and allowed commenters three minutes each. Public commenters John Dobbs and Larry McSwain spoke during the hearing; the transcript records their participation and the start times (6:05 p.m. and thereafter) but does not include verbatim content of their remarks. The board closed the public hearing at 6:11 p.m.
The board scheduled formal adoption of the FY2027 budget for June 16, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. during the regular meeting. After further discussion the special called meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m. Minutes indicate the document was approved June 16, 2026, with signatures by Interim Chair Linda D. Hays and County Clerk Susan G. Nolley.
