Oscoda County board approves agenda, consent items and routine hires; staffing changes acknowledged

The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners approved several routine motions and personnel actions during its June 9 regular meeting in Mio.
On a Handrich/Breaugh motion the board approved the meeting agenda (motion 2026‑142). The Consent Calendar, including unofficial minutes for May 26, 2026 and the Claims and Audit Docket totaling $316,473.50, was approved on a McCauley/Handrich motion (motion 2026‑143) by roll call (Handrich, Jagiello, McCauley, Varner, Breaugh — all yes).
The board acknowledged appointments for the 2026 early voting cycle (motion 2026‑144): Lori Wyman as Coordinator at $25.00/hour; Audry Mitchell as Site Supervisor at $17.50/hour; and Election Inspectors Alvin Eastman, Colton Mitchell, Larry Wilson and Candace Wallace at $15.00/hour. The motion carried by roll call.
The board approved hiring Mr. Zachary Freel as a part‑time seasonal Historical Commission employee (motion 2026‑145) at $15.00/hour beginning May 7, 2026, up to 24 hours per week; the motion included a budget amendment and passed 5‑0.
Commissioner Varner’s committee appointment revisions (motions 2026‑146 and 2026‑147) were approved, moving Commissioner Linda Jagiello onto the Oscoda County Chamber of Commerce Board and naming her an alternate to the Oscoda County Council on Aging Board. The board acknowledged the resignation of B.O.C. Executive Secretary Ms. Rene Welser, effective June 19, 2026 (motion 2026‑148) and passed a motion assigning Commissioners Varner, Handrich and County Administrator Michelle Knepp to review the job description and advertise for a replacement (motion 2026‑149). All motions passed unanimously.
A motion to adjourn carried 5‑0 and the board adjourned at 11:04 a.m. (motion 2026‑150). The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mio Community Center.
