Port Wentworth manager outlines budget priorities, schedules downtown ditch dredging and fall community events

City Manager Steve Davis presented the city's draft budget and a schedule of near‑term public works and community events during the Sept. 19 Port Wentworth City Council meeting.
Davis said the proposed budget includes funding for new equipment and new personnel. He told council that starting Oct. 1, Public Works crews will begin phased dredging of downtown Port Wentworth ditches. "Starting October first, Public Works will begin ditch dredging of all of downtown Port Wentworth ditches in phases," Davis said during his presentation.
Davis also announced several city events and openings: a ribbon cutting for a new state‑of‑the‑art training facility to be open Oct. 4, a rescheduled Front Porch Friday event on Oct. 11, the Leisure Service Fall Festival on Oct. 18, a Heart Festival Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31, a Port Wentworth Broncos preseason game honoring Cancer Awareness on Oct. 28, and a harvest market on Nov. 2. These events were presented as part of ongoing city programming and outreach.
The presentation provided council and residents with the timetable for infrastructure works and community programming tied to the new budget. Staff will carry out the ditch dredging in phases beginning Oct. 1 and will coordinate event logistics through the Leisure Services department.
