Council accepts donated cemetery flag and reviews nuisance-property court orders

During new business on Aug. 4 the Truman City Council accepted a proposal to install a flag and flagpole at the west end of the cemetery after resident Faith Clow presented the idea and Art Dougherty offered to install it at no cost to the city.
Councilor Danielle Williams moved and Councilor Ron Kelley seconded acceptance of the donation; the motion carried unanimously. Council asked staff to return with an estimate for the cost to trench in power for a light at the site.
Council also reviewed two recent nuisance-property court orders. The minutes state the Johnson property can be cleaned up when funding is available; the Kitzerow property has one year for the owner to remove a hazardous structure before the city may proceed with abatement; staff will contact the owner of Sarge's about mowing.
No additional enforcement votes were taken at the meeting; council asked staff to follow up on timelines and funding for cleanup actions and to contact property owners as noted.
