Councilor Beam presented a list of potential fire-protection options for Clermont and Councilor Topf proposed convening a special meeting to examine options and implement a plan. The council scheduled an open special meeting for Jan. 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the fire contract in detail.
Attorney Bob Lutz cautioned against discussing ongoing litigation or eminent-domain matters in an open meeting and said the town remains in the discovery phase on an eminent-domain case. The council reported it has not received a response to a FOIA request sent to the Wayne Fire Department; Attorney Lutz will follow up with Wayne Township.
The council did not make a final decision on switching providers or modifying the contract at this meeting; the Jan. 5 special meeting will be the next procedural step.
