Board approves 2026–27 and 2027–28 school calendars; small schedule shifts and snow‑day planning included

The Centerville‑Abington Community Schools board voted unanimously on June 24 to adopt updates to the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school calendars.

For 2026–27 the board approved adding a third built‑in snow day, moving a teacher work day from Jan. 1 to Jan. 4 (to avoid conflict with holiday pay for year‑round contracts) and associated adjustments to the last day of school. The motion to accept the 2026–27 calendar passed by voice vote, 5‑0.

The 2027–28 calendar was approved after discussion about date geometry and instructional impacts: administrators were able to include only two built‑in snow makeup days due to how breaks fell; the most notable change is moving fall break to occur the week after the nine‑week grading period (a change requested by several schools that also affects athletics scheduling). The 2027–28 calendar also sets a teacher work day on Jan. 3 and notes differing treatment of Good Friday teacher work days used in some nearby districts. The motion to approve the 2027–28 calendar also passed by voice vote, 5‑0.

Board members discussed the tradeoffs of adding makeup days at the end of the year versus relying on synchronous e‑learning or other approaches; administrators said the calendars were developed in consultation with the association and school principals. Both calendar approvals were recorded as voice votes with a five‑member board in favor.

The calendars will be posted and staff will proceed with the scheduling implications for athletics and instruction.
