Council approves siren maintenance contract, progresses pickleball court and campground work

The Truman City Council on Aug. 4 approved a three-year maintenance contract with West Shore Services for the city's emergency siren and moved forward on several public works projects.
Public Works Superintendent Brent Brown told the council that concrete is in for the new pickleball court and must cure before Sport Court surface material can be applied; the city will supply backfill material. Brown said a previously ordered plow was canceled and a refund is pending while staff seeks a second quote; the plow discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
On the emergency siren, the council approved a three-year maintenance agreement with West Shore Services (annual maintenance quoted at $695) on a motion by Councilor Ron Kelley, seconded by Councilor Chad Truax; the motion carried unanimously.
Council also approved a $6,000 proposal to paint the Quonset buildings, with the city's share estimated at $3,000. Councilor Ron Kelley and others noted the $3,000 was not in the current budget but that sealcoat work came in under budget and those funds could be used to cover the painting.
Campground work was reported as substantially complete: the culvert has been replaced, utility services have been stubbed into the new sites, and seeding is scheduled for the fall. Staff said three interviews for a public works maintenance position are scheduled next week.
The council did not schedule additional votes on these items beyond the motions approving the siren contract and the Quonset painting; staff will return with further procurement details and the pending plow quotes at a future meeting.
