Martin County Deputy Mike Anderson told the Truman City Council on Aug. 4 that the sheriff's department is investigating an attempted theft of the ATM at Profinium and that deputies now have city ordinances loaded into their mobile system so they can issue citations when appropriate.
Anderson said deputies will begin watching for instances of grass blown into the street, an issue the city now addresses by sending letters to violators. He said the department will look into whether deputies have the authority to write citations for that offense under existing local law.
The comments came during the monthly sheriff department update at the start of the council's regular meeting. No formal action was taken; council members asked staff to monitor follow-up from the sheriff's office and to report back if a citation process is available.
The council did not provide additional details about the ATM investigation during the meeting nor a timeline for the sheriff's office to report back on citation authority. According to the meeting minutes, the council later moved on to public works and other agenda items.
