The Two Harbors City Council on Sept. 22 adopted a proposed 9% preliminary property tax levy for taxes payable in 2026 and scheduled a Truth in Taxation hearing for Dec. 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
Finance Director Pietila presented the 2026 proposed 9% preliminary levy to the council and said the final adoption will be decided at the Truth in Taxation hearing. Councilor Erickson told the council the Finance and Budget Committee had met and unanimously recommended the proposed levy be placed on the agenda for consideration.
The motion to establish the proposed levy (Resolution No. 09-410-25) was made by Councilor Redmann, seconded by Councilor Redden and carried on a unanimous roll-call vote of members present. Present councilors recorded in the roll call were Erickson, Redmann, Heil, Redden, Glaser and Hefter.
Why it matters: the Truth in Taxation hearing gives property owners a public forum to review and comment on the proposed levy before the council adopts a final figure in December.
Next steps: the council will hold the Truth in Taxation hearing on Dec. 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, where the Finance Director will present final figures and the council may adopt the levy.
