Residents raise tax‑hike concerns as Truman council opens Truth in Taxation hearing

City Clerk/Treasurer Melissa Sirovy told the council that part of the increase is attributable to residential property values rising substantially, citing sale prices that exceeded taxable market value in recent years as a contributing factor.
Council members explained that city expenses and capital needs are driving increases in the levy and that the council would consider formal adoption of the 2026 budget and levy at its Dec. 15 meeting. No vote on the levy occurred on Dec. 1; the hearing was closed after the discussion.
