Henlopen Acres board to coordinate with town and state over tents in the dunes

The Henlopen Acres Property Owners Committee (HAPOC) on Sept. 1 recorded that a tent and recent signs of occupancy were visible in the dunes along Rolling Road in Block W and directed follow-up action.
Board member Johan Poulsen and board member George Dotzel approached the young man living in the tent; the minutes say he "promised to leave in one day," and Poulsen will follow up to confirm the person has left. The board noted that Rehoboth has been removing tents in several locations and agreed HAPOC will do the same where appropriate.
HAPOC voted to involve other authorities if needed: the committee said it will invite State Police and/or Delaware State Park Rangers to determine responsibility for addressing tenting on Block W. At HAPOC's request, Town Security will place a call to State Police seeking assistance.
The board also agreed not to repair a broken dune fence until tents are removed and to distribute pamphlets to dune occupants about local services. The pamphlets will direct people to the Community Resource Center on Oyster Shell Road for food, showers and daytime, air-conditioned space; the minutes note the center does not provide overnight accommodations.
Next steps: Poulsen will verify the occupant has left, Town Security will contact State Police if necessary, and HAPOC will deliver informational pamphlets to individuals found in the dunes. No formal fines or ordinance citations are recorded in the minutes of this meeting.
