Truman council approves liquor licenses pending background checks, equipment purchase, donations and routine claims

At its Sept. 15 meeting the Truman City Council handled a package of administrative and routine items including liquor licensing, equipment replacement, donations and claims.
Council approved on-sale, off-sale and Sunday liquor licenses for Adam Cooling at Truman Tavern LLC effective Oct. 1, 2025, contingent on successful background checks and completion of paperwork and fees (motion by Ron Kelley; second by Danielle Williams). The council approved Public Works Superintendent Brent Brown’s recommendation to pursue purchase of a 2015 Ford F450 available on MN Bid to replace a problematic 1993 flatbed; Brown was authorized to use his judgment on the bidding amount and to sell the 1993 via MN Bid. The council also agreed to form a committee to negotiate the IBEW union contract renewal; Mayor Jake Ebert and Councilor Ron Kelley volunteered to serve.
The council adopted Resolution 2025-40 to accept donations received in August, approved the August 2025 financial statements, and approved payment of claims totaling $191,156.01 (checks #43072, #43102-#43135, ACH #1159E-#1168E, #501953E). Motions carried unanimously. The council also noted cleanup day plans for Sept. 20 and heard that Martin County reports Sarge’s property forfeited for nonpayment of taxes with buried fuel tanks to be removed ahead of an upcoming auction.
