Mayor Jake Ebert said Councilor Ron Kelley requested adding the CEDA contract to the proposed 2026 budget; the contract cited by Kelley costs $16,400 annually for one day of service every other week and, Kelley said, could help sell residential lots and support development opportunities. Council also discussed fire-department reserves, roof repair needs, and renewal of the law enforcement contract with Martin County. Further budget discussion was scheduled for the Sept. 15 meeting.
The council approved payment of claims totaling $124,470.88 (checks #43038–#43039, #43073–#43101; ACH #1151E–#1158E, #81126E, and #501933E) by unanimous vote. Council approved posting an ad to accept applications for the public-works maintenance position and approved advertising for sidewalk snow-removal bids (bid opening set for the first meeting in October). Council also instructed staff to send a certified letter to MN Para after the organization fell three months behind on its lease.
The council approved purchase of two office PCs because existing computers are too outdated for an upcoming Windows release. One computer will be paid from utility funds; the other will be charged to the clerk’s department with 10% allocated to the ambulance fund.
Why it matters: budget choices—such as whether to add an economic-development contract—affect city spending priorities and service delivery in 2026. The approved claims payment and equipment purchases are near-term operational actions that will be reflected in the city’s cash flow.
