Town council member asks Tree Allies to create Miller Park signage and help lead Oct. 17 volunteer projects

Town Council member and Facilities Maintenance Kim Sauro asked the Tree Allies Oct. 8 to help produce tree identification tags and educational signage in Miller Park so visitors can learn about trees and other plantings.
Sauro also asked for comprehensive evaluations of park trees to guide pruning or removal decisions and recommended developing a long-term Miller Park tree plan. Heidi Boyle, Larry Beiter and Bernie Denning were identified as the evaluation team; the group discussed asking Indianapolis city forester Chris Flanagan for professional advice. Mike Beam said he would follow up with Flanagan to check interest and potential charges; Tim Lambard suggested contacting an arborist the town has used previously as an alternative.
Sauro said IU West Hospital will send 100–150 volunteers to Clermont on Oct. 17 and requested Tree Allies’ assistance converting lawn to landscaped areas along Crawfordsville Road near the town center, including species selection and crew leadership. Heidi and Bernie agreed to help; Linda Straub and Mallory Abel were listed as maybes. Mike and other members will coordinate outreach, arborist contact and notes for developing a Miller Park plan.
The minutes record no formal vote on these requests; the items were entered as tasks and follow-ups for members and staff to pursue.
