OpenLands and Leyden High School students sign up homeowners for May 9 planting; school property to receive eight trees

Leslie Aguilar of OpenLands reported that nine homeowners signed up to receive trees during canvassing with Ecology Club students. Member Ramona Michael and Andy Smolen visited East Leyden High School, met Principal Dr. Huisman and the school grounds superintendent, and walked the school perimeter to identify planting locations for eight trees on school property. Additional planting locations were identified for five trees on Pearl Street, two on Gage Street and one on Edginton Street.
The commission encouraged collaboration with school staff and volunteers to ensure site suitability and homeowner permission ahead of the May 9 planting. The May 9 event is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will involve students and OpenLands TreeKeepers volunteers.
