Franklin Park officials confirmed plans to plant donated trees at multiple locations after a Tree Preservation Commission meeting on April 21, 2026. The largest planting will take place at Addison and Wolf on April 25, where 60 of the 80 donated trees will be installed.
The planting was described as a volunteer-driven event. Member Ramona Michael said volunteers will provide refreshments and that she and Andy Smolen would purchase supplies ahead of the event. Andy Smolen reported that although 80 trees were donated for Arbor Day/CRTI efforts, camera-coverage limitations at the Addison and Wolf site restrict planting there to 60 trees; the remaining donated trees will be planted at other Village locations.
The village will set up tables and coordinate volunteers, and members encouraged residents to sign up for future plantings. The commission also confirmed an intern position funded from remaining grant funds to assist with canvassing and planting logistics; Member Michael said the intern will be paid $18.00 per hour and will help identify planting locations and seek homeowner permission where needed.
The planting is part of a broader sequence of events and partnerships the commission cited at the meeting, including a May 9 planting with OpenLands and East Leyden High School students. The commission urged residents to watch village announcements for volunteer sign-up details.
