Select Board member Crystal Robinson and the HES nurse, Allison, asked the Hope Select Board on March 11 to allow early planning for a community gardening initiative while the town awaits a grant decision expected by the last week of March. The board unanimously approved use of the Town Office library area for meetings that include some adults, with the understanding the project’s scope would return to the board if it expands.
Robinson and Allison said they wanted to start meeting now to lay groundwork for the program; Joe Tassi said he hopes the gardening work can be folded into the regular school curriculum. The Town Administrator cautioned that several components of the grant require organization and follow-through and warned against starting activities that could cause early burnout before a townwide program is developed. Crystal Robinson agreed to return to the Select Board if the meeting scope changes.
The approval covers only use of town space for planning and does not commit the town to funding. The Select Board’s action allows Crystal and school staff to begin meeting while they wait to learn whether the grant application will be approved by the end of March.
