Residents ask for tree trimming, library livestreams; council approves $71,500 landscaping contract

At the April 8, 2025 Montezuma City Council meeting, two residents addressed the council during the public-comment portion: Richard Griffin asked the city to trim trees at the intersection of Hamilton Road and East Railroad Street and suggested the Montezuma Public Library use Microsoft Teams to livestream special programs; Rodessa Strong introduced herself and her husband as new community members wishing to contribute positively.
The council then approved the consent agenda, which included awarding a landscape maintenance agreement to low bidder C&S Landscaping for $71,500 to maintain city properties including several cemetery plots, lift station #2 on S. Dooly St., water towers and water plants. City Administrator/Clerk Jennifer McCarthy presented the consent items. Councilmember Daniel Porter moved to accept the consent agenda and Councilmember Charles Ivey seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The landscaping contract and associated budget amendment will be implemented via transfers to the Cemetery, Water and Sewer funds as outlined in the adopted resolution. No further public comment or debate on the contract was recorded at the meeting.
What’s next: staff are responsible for implementing the awarded contract and effecting the stated budget amendments; residents requesting tree trimming or library livestreaming may follow up with city staff for next steps.
