Montezuma council adopts 2024 millage rate at 13.0 mils; approves water-main repair and street overlay change order

The Montezuma City Council on Oct. 15 adopted Resolution No. 734, setting the city’s 2024 ad valorem tax millage rate at 13.0 mils, and approved several consent-agenda infrastructure items, including a water-main repair and a small street-work change order.
Resolution No. 734, recorded in the meeting minutes and attached as an exhibit, formally fixes the millage rate for tax year 2024 at 13.0 mils. The resolution is dated Oct. 15, 2024, and is recorded in the minutes as adopted by the mayor and council. The mayor and clerk’s attestation appears in the minutes.
On infrastructure items, council approved the installation of a 10-inch Bell joint clamp on the South Dooly Street water main, to be installed by John R. Walker, Inc., at a cost of $5,800; the minutes note the repair addressed a water break attributed to rising water from Hurricane Helene. The council also approved a $5,000 change order to mill and overlay a portion of West Railroad Street in front of the Montezuma Fire Department, which increases the original contract price from $209,467.00 to a total contract price of $214,467.00. The minutes include Attachment #1 with the contract information.
The motion to accept items on the consent agenda (including the minutes and Resolution No. 734) and to approve the infrastructure items was recorded with Council Member Charles Ivey making the motion and Council Member Cleveland Hobbs seconding. The vote on the consent agenda and related approvals was unanimous among the seven council members present (Mayor Nealie Johnson; Mayor Pro Tempore Daniel Porter; Council Members Howard Brown, Walter Felton, Cleveland Hobbs, Charles Ivey, and Marie Tooks).
With no further business, Mayor Nealie Johnson adjourned the meeting.
