Coffey County commissioners approve deferred compensation plan, sign noxious weed report

The Coffey County Board of Commissioners approved two routine but widely used personnel and program measures during its March 9 meeting.
Commissioners voted to adopt resolution number 2026-971, authorizing a deferred compensation plan that gives employees an additional voluntary retirement-savings option; staff and commissioners said the plan carries no cost to the county. The motion to approve the resolution passed unanimously with the chairman authorized to sign the document.
The board also acknowledged and approved the county’s 2025 annual Noxious Weed Eradication progress report and authorized the chairman to sign the report and circulate copies for signature. Commissioners discussed that the report had been provided by the Noxious Weed director as part of routine oversight and that multiple members would sign it.
Both measures were presented as administrative items during the meeting and were approved by voice vote. The minutes of the March 2 meeting were also approved at the start of the session.
The board did not attach new funding to either of these approvals; commissioners characterized the deferred compensation plan as an employee option and the noxious weed report as an informational record of past work and progress.
