Kenyon-Wanamingo board certifies tax levy, approves multi‑year agreements, handbooks and donations

At its Sept. 22 meeting, the Kenyon-Wanamingo School District Board unanimously certified the proposed 2025 maximum tax levy payable 2026, set a Truth in Taxation hearing for Dec. 8, approved 2025–2027 Maintenance/IT and HR agreements, adopted student handbooks and accepted several donations and memorial gifts.
The Kenyon-Wanamingo School District (ISD 2172) Board of Education on Sept. 22 unanimously certified its proposed maximum tax levy for 2025 payable in 2026 and approved a package of contracts, student handbooks and donations during a meeting in the Kenyon media center.
The action to certify the levy was approved on a 6-0 roll call (Member AJ Lindell was absent) after a motion by Member Erica Aronson, seconded by Chair Tonya Craig. The board also set its Truth in Taxation meeting for Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., to be held during the regular board meeting.
The board approved a Maintenance/IT Agreement for 2025–2027 (motion by Chair Tonya Craig, seconded by Member Erica Aronson) and a Human Resources Agreement for 2025–2027 (motion by Member Erica Aronson, seconded by Member Marilyn Syverson). Both motions passed 6-0.
Board members approved the Elementary and Middle/High School student handbooks for the 2025–2026 school year on a 6-0 vote after a motion by Member Marilyn Syverson, seconded by Member Erica Aronson. The board also approved a high school choir fundraiser to sell poinsettias in November (motion by Member Erica Aronson, seconded by Chair Tonya Craig), 6-0.
Member Debb Paquin introduced and moved adoption of a resolution accepting donations; Member James Jarvis seconded and the board approved by roll call 6-0 (Lindell absent). Donations recorded in the minutes include school supplies valued at $211.79 (anonymous donor), $50 gifts to the Angel Fund from Dave and Janelle O’Brien, Wanamingo Lutheran Church and Les and Cheryl Kyllo, a $100 gift from Paul and Jean Rugg, $20 from Trinity Lutheran Church, $2,900 for the K-W Athletic Department from Ralph Hagberg Memorials, and school supplies valued at $58 from Pat and Janet Kruse.
Administrative reports were provided and the finance summary listed claims on accounts totaling $206,169.26 across listed funds (Fund 01: $198,340.25; Fund 02: $1,275.00; Fund 04: $1,190.17; Fund 50: $5,363.84). Electronic fund transfers totaled $523,016.86 and MNTRUST transfers were $650,000.00. The board adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
The Truth in Taxation hearing on Dec. 8 will be the next scheduled opportunity for public comment on the levy.
