Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board approves personnel moves, policy updates and accepts community donations

The Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board approved a slate of personnel actions, policy updates and community donations during its Aug. 25, 2025 meeting in Kenyon.
Superintendent Pat Heiderscheit presented the Teacher Development and Evaluation Plan and noted the plan now includes a cultural competency component; the board approved the plan unanimously. The board also approved the district’s Restrictive Procedures for 2025–2026, the substitute pay rates for 2025–2026 and the School Closure Guidelines for 2025–2026, each by unanimous votes.
In a single-reading action, the board adopted revised policies 414 (Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Abuse), 418 (Drug-Free Workplace/Drug-Free School), 501 (School Weapons), 515 (Protection and Privacy of Pupil Records), 516 (Student Medication and Telehealth) and 516.5 (Overdose Medications). The motion to adopt the six revised policies passed 7–0.
The personnel report was approved with a recorded vote of 5–0–2 (AJ Lindell moved; Erica Aronson seconded); board members Madilynn Lurken and Chair Tonya Craig abstained. The personnel actions recorded in the minutes include resignations (Sydney Belcher, Knights Kids substitute para; Shane Lunde, trap team coach), appointments effective for the 2025–2026 school year (including Monique Goins, Grade 5 teacher; Emmalee Kmoch, Kindergarten teacher), a leave of absence for Katie Valek (Kindergarten teacher), an FMLA request for custodian Rob Vieths (8/18/2025–9/14/2025), and several position/coach reassignments and an FTE reinstatement for Brent Lurken to 1.0 FTE PE/Health teacher.
Member Debb Paquin introduced a resolution accepting community donations for school and Community Education events; Member Tonya Craig seconded. The board approved the resolution by roll call, 7–0. Donations listed in the minutes included: free ice-cream coupons for a Community Ed Bike Rodeo (valued at $120) from Angie’s Restaurant (donor Angie Anderson); two bicycles (valued at $325) from Midwest Machinery; bike helmets, chains, locks and lights (valued at $508) from Scheels Rochester; reusable stainless steel water bottles (valued at $50) from State Farm – Kenyon; $1,245.86 in classroom/teacher first-aid and personal-care kits from Kenyon Fire Relief Association; and a pallet of bottled water from Nilssen’s Foods in Zumbrota.
Administrators presented routine administrative reports and the finance report. Claims presented totaled $227,324.07 across the listed funds (Fund 01: $213,939.38; Fund 02: $9,339.80; Fund 04: $4,005.89; Fund 50: $39.00) with electronic fund transfers of $539,428.29 and MNTRUST transfers of $700,000.00.
The board adjourned at 6:36 p.m. following the consent and action items.
