Bennet council approves consent agenda; grants curb cut and Saltillo Road access waiver

The Bennet City Council approved its consent agenda and two property-access waivers during its March 9 regular meeting at Bennet City Hall.
Mayor Ryan Cheney called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. and the council moved quickly to adopt the consent agenda, which included approval of the Feb. 9, 2026 minutes, claims for payment, the Treasurer’s Report and RESOLUTION 2026-3.1 approving a Block Party for BEDA’s Firefly Festival. Council Member Dan Zieg moved to approve the consent agenda and Pete Simmons seconded; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Council Members Josh Buck, Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons and Dan Zieg voting yes.
Following the consent agenda, the council considered several land-access requests. Applicant Brandon Garvin requested a curb cut; Dan Zieg moved and Jesse Schmidt seconded a motion to approve a curb cut not to exceed 12 feet in width with a paved approach. The council voted unanimously in favor (Buck, Schmidt, Simmons, Zieg).
The council also considered a request from Dave Griffith to permit a driveway on Saltillo Road to provide access to the Hunter’s Ridge Addition well house for maintenance. Josh Buck moved and Pete Simmons seconded a motion to approve a waiver of relinquishment of direct vehicular access to Saltillo Road for that limited maintenance purpose. The motion passed with three yes votes (Simmons, Buck, Schmidt) and one abstention. Council Member Dan Zieg recorded an abstention with a declared conflict.
All formal motions and roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes. The council then moved on to other business and later convened a brief closed session for legal advice before adjourning at 8:10 p.m.
