Murray County board approves local permits, grant applications and routine items; MCMC seeks state funding

At its June 2 meeting the Murray County Board of Commissioners handled a range of routine and programmatic items: land‑use permits, drainage bills, park maintenance purchases, grant applications, and facilities planning.
Land use and drainage: the board approved Conditional Use Permit #1438 (Nicki Oss) to construct and elevate a cabin in Lake Shetek’s flood fringe and approved Conditional Use Permit #1440 for Lake Shetek Campground to expand an existing Planned Unit Development with two special conditions each. The board also approved drainage authority bills totaling $19,176.50; copies of invoices were made available by county staff.
Parks and procurement: commissioners authorized soliciting bids for winter storage rental of fairgrounds buildings (two‑year term; bids to be opened June 23) and approved purchase of 18 Black Hills spruce trees from Greenwood Nursery for Swenson County Park at a cost of $6,300 (budgeted $6,000; staff confirmed funds available to cover the $300 overage).
Grants and museum work: Museums Director Nick Demuth received board permission to apply for a Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) Legacy Grant of $177,408 to rehab windows on the Dinehart Holt House (this is the third application for the project). The board also approved the State of Minnesota Boat and Water Grant for $4,863 and authorized Sheriff Landsman to sign the agreement.
Facility planning: the Building Committee requested an initial scope to evaluate long‑term county facility needs (security, life‑safety, storage, deferred maintenance and accessibility). The board approved development and solicitation of proposals for professional architectural/planning services to inform future capital planning.
MCMC update: the Murray County Medical Center reported staffing and service updates (including welcoming Courtney Bonnstetter as Director of Nurses), scheduled capital work (X-ray remodel: pre-bid June 9; bid opening June 23; board review June 24), equipment upgrades and integration work, and a submitted Rural Health Transformation Program application seeking up to $1.4 million for two priority initiatives (community-based preventative care/chronic disease management and technology/infrastructure investments). Financial highlights included a month-end cash position of $9,933,911 and net patient receivables of $4,108,036; monthly EBIDA was $33,222 and net income for the month $2,184. Staff noted a community 75th‑anniversary BBQ on June 3 from 5–7 p.m.
