Robert Jusis, a Kenosha resident, told the Public Works Committee that a “Kenosha welcomes you” sign on Sheridan Road across from the former Kino Drive‑in is overgrown and the paint is chipping, and asked whether Public Works is the correct body to approve an Eagle Scout restoration and possible lighting project.
“There's there's no lighting at least to my knowledge, so you can't really see the sign at night,” Jusis said, adding that he would like to clean, repaint and restore it with city approval as his Eagle Scout project. The committee’s staff asked for his contact information and said they would follow up on permitting and requirements.
Mister Kader, the staff member who spoke for Public Works, accepted Jusis’s contact card and told him to call the department to get the project on the right track. “Give me a call — we will get you on the right track,” Kader said.
Why it matters: streetscape and gateway signage are city‑owned assets that may require coordination with multiple departments for right‑of‑way work, lighting and maintenance; a volunteer project can reduce costs but still needs formal approvals. The committee did not take formal action on the request during the meeting; staff indicated they would advise the resident on permitting steps and any required city approvals.
The next step: Public Works staff will contact Jusis to outline approval requirements and any needed permit applications.
