Authority receives update on Home Connoisseur housing program; NewGen Homes withdraws from portion of project
Summary
Staff reported that four houses are finished and two enclosed under the Home Connoisseur program; three households have closed on homes. Staff said NewGen Homes withdrew from an agreement to build five houses and that those lots will be re-offered once quitclaim deeds are filed with the Kenosha County Register of Deeds.
Redevelopment Authority staff gave a progress update on the Home Connoisseur program at the Dec. 2 meeting and recommended the authority receive and file the report.
Staff said Forest and Builders and Properties has four finished houses and two houses enclosed; permits have been pulled for two additional houses (referred to as houses 7 and 8). Three households have completed purchases so far: one retired man, a young woman who was a first-time buyer, and a young first-time-buying couple. Two more households are pending closings while mortgage paperwork is resolved.
“NewGen Homes had to pull out of their agreement to build 5 houses,” staff said; staff described steps needed to clear title and re-offer the lots, including filing quitclaim deeds with the Kenosha County Register of Deeds so the authority can solicit new builders for those lots. Staff reported interest from other builders for multiple blocks and said it is negotiating development agreements with two additional builders.
The authority voted to receive and file the report. No policy action or budget authorization was taken during the item; staff will continue project management and report back as developments occur.
